COMMENT TO THE AGE JUNE 10 SEGMENT – screening 3 yo. For mental illness.
“There are kids who need it but we don’t want to make normal kids abnormal.”
If you want to see the dangers of misdiagnosis and how a normal kid can be made abnormal, look at this link.
I have 5 grandchildren, 3 of whom were extremely shy, and 4 of whom slept will a hallway light on. They are now aged from 17 – 29 and not one of them is maladjusted, shy or needs a hallway light on. They all hold down very stressful jobs very capably and exceed in their employers expectations!
Given this high number of kids with childhood fears and extreme shyness, they could have been diagnosed as needing psychiatric medication, and could have been made abnormal when in fact they were really normal to begin with, and still are!
Most of my grandchildren could have ended up as a Garth Daniels case, which would have been a gross medical crime.
